📜 Overview

Sundarbans Tiger Tour — Rocket Heritage, Wild Mangroves & Otter Fishing (8D/7N, Private)

Under a silver moon, a century-old Rocket paddle steamer churns south through a maze of rivers, its paddle wheels beating a rhythm older than the nation itself. At dawn, you step ashore and wander the brick-red domes and cool vaulted halls of UNESCO-listed Bagerhat, where medieval mosques rise out of emerald fields and misty ponds.

Then the world quiets. For days, your private houseboat glides along green corridors of the Sundarbans, the planet’s largest mangrove forest. Spotted deer flicker between trees, crocodiles sun on mudflats, kingfishers flash electric blue, and the air smells of salt and wildflowers. Each tide reveals new channels to explore, and evenings end on deck under a sky strewn with stars.

Later, on the Chitra River, fishermen whistle softly while trained otters herd fish into waiting nets — a living tradition that feels centuries old. You watch it from just an arm’s length away.

You finish at Sonargaon & Panam City, Bengal’s old mercantile heart, where boats and bazaars still hum with trade and faded palaces line narrow lanes. Jamdani looms click out shimmering saris as they have for generations — a final glimpse of living heritage before you depart.

💡 Pro Tip: We cap groups at a maximum of 4 guests — quieter creeks, smoother logistics, and far better wildlife moments than big-boat tours.

Day 1 — Welcome to Dhaka

We meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel swiftly. Rest, refresh, and join a pre-tour briefing where you receive local tips and a clear overview of the journey ahead.

Day 2 — Old Dhaka & the Rocket Night

Start your day at Louis Kahn’s Parliament House, then move through the incense-lit Dhakeshwari Temple, Lalbagh Fort, Star Mosque, Armenian Church, and the Pink Palace — Old Dhaka unfolds as a kaleidoscope of eras and faiths. Ride a rickshaw through Shankhari/Chawk Bazar, then glide across the bustling Buriganga on a rowboat at sunset. Around 18:00, you board the Rocket — first-class cabin when available, or the best modern ferry — and settle in for an atmospheric overnight run through the delta.

Day 3 — UNESCO Bagerhat → Mongla Gateway

You disembark at Hularhat mid-morning and drive to the 15th-century Mosque City of Bagerhat. Explore the Sixty Dome Mosque, Khan Jahan Ali’s shrine, the 9-Dome Mosque, and Bibi Begni Mosque. When timing allows, you detour to the serene Kodla Math. In the late afternoon, you travel onwards to Mongla, the gateway town to the Sundarbans, and check into your hotel.

Day 4 — Into the Sundarbans (Harbaria → Kotka)

Board your private houseboat in Mongla. Our team finalises permits, and an armed forest ranger joins you on board. You stretch your legs on the Harbaria eco-trail, then slow-cruise to Kotka. At dusk, you slip into a silent wooden rowboat — the best light and the best chance for close wildlife encounters. You dine on deck and fall asleep to mangrove hush and starlight.

Day 5 — Towers, Creeks & a Secret Beach

Before dawn, you climb the Kotka watchtower to scan for deer and boar in the mist. You row through mirror-still creeks, then walk through forest trails to Jamtola Beach — wild, empty, cinematic. In the afternoon, you continue to Kochikhali and explore narrow canals where kingfishers stitch colour through the air. Back aboard, you enjoy a mellow evening and a hearty BBQ dinner.

Day 6 — Horintana → Karamjol → Khulna

You scan the Horintana mudflats for crocodiles and deer, then cruise toward the dolphin sanctuary and onward to Karamjol for a short boardwalk and a visit to the croc-breeding centre. Later, you return to Mongla and drive to Khulna, where a hot shower and soft bed round off your Sundarbans chapter.

Day 7 — Otter Fishing & Drive to Dhaka

In Narail, you witness a vanishing craft: fishermen and trained otters working in graceful rhythm to push fish into nets — an ethical, community-run experience. You share tea with the family, then continue by road to Dhaka via the Padma Bridge, enjoying the changing countryside. Overnight in Dhaka.

Day 8 — Sonargaon & Panam City → Departure

You set out on a day trip to Sonargaon. Visit Goaldi Mosque (1519), explore the Folk Arts Museum at Sardar Bari, and walk along the haunting Panam Nagar mansions. In a nearby Jamdani weaving village, you meet master weavers and watch patterns emerge on handlooms by memory. After the visit, we transfer you to the airport for your onward flight.

🎯 Trip Notes & Responsibility

📌 Key Notes

• Start Days: Mondays and Tuesdays every week.
• Rocket reality: Heritage vessels with character; AC can be patchy; showers are basic or absent.
• Wildlife truth: Tiger sightings are sporadic — come primarily for mangrove atmosphere and overall biodiversity.
• Boat comfort: Simple, clean houseboat with solar LEDs, evening generator, and western toilet.
• Hotels: Clean 4–5★ local standard upscale accommodation (AC, hot water, western toilets, breakfast) in major hubs; best available elsewhere.
• Connectivity: Patchy to none in the forest — enjoy a genuine digital detox.
• Fitness: Short walks on flat trails, boarding small boats, and managing moderate heat/humidity.
• Season: Nov–Feb is coolest & driest; tours are restricted between June–August.

🌍 Responsible Travel Pledge

🤝 Ethical, Community First Travel: We ensure fair pay for guides, drivers, boat crews, artisans, and local families. We support community-led enterprises and ethical craft traditions with dignity and respect.

🗑️ Leave No Trace: We minimise waste on every tour and take out everything we bring in. Nature and communities remain exactly as we found them—or better.

🐦 Wildlife Comes First: No baiting, no chasing, no disturbance. We avoid flash photography around animals and always respect ethical viewing distances.

🕌 Cultural Respect Always: Dress modestly in sacred spaces, behave respectfully, and ask permission before taking close-up portraits of people—especially elders, artisans, and children.

🌱 Carbon-Aware Travel: We prioritise CNG-powered and fuel-efficient vehicles whenever possible. Remaining emissions are offset through local tree-planting initiatives in Bangladesh.

Is the Rocket guaranteed?
No. If it isn’t operating or cabins sell out, we secure the best modern ferry instead. The overnight river journey remains a highlight.

How many days are we inside the Sundarbans?
You spend three full field days (two nights on board), which gives ample time for rich wildlife experiences while still including Bagerhat, otter fishing, Old Dhaka, and Sonargaon within 8 days.

Can I really see a tiger?
Possibly, but sightings are rare. We prioritise dawn/dusk silent creek rows and intelligent routing to maximise your chances while always respecting wildlife.

Is the otter fishing authentic?
Yes. Narail families still practise this tradition. We observe respectfully and never allow guests to handle the animals.

What are the cabins like?
Rocket/ferry cabins are air-conditioned; houseboat cabins are simple, clean, and functional. All are twin-share unless you add a single supplement (for hotels only).

Do you provide air-conditioned boats for Sundarbans tours?
No. We recommend non-air-conditioned boats, as AC vessels must run generators constantly, which disturbs habitats and scares wildlife away. In winter, traditional houseboats are both comfortable and eco-friendly, letting you enjoy fresh river breeze and better wildlife viewing.

What should I pack?
Bring closed shoes, a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, a warm layer (Nov–Feb), and binoculars if you enjoy birding.
