Multi Day Trip
Sylhet is Bangladesh in green ā a living tapestry of undulating tea gardens, rainforest trails where hoolock gibbons call at dawn, emerald swamps that mirror the sky, and blue-water canals so vivid they look painted. In Khasi and Manipuri hamlets, time slows to the rhythm of betel-leaf gardens, bamboo houses, and hand-woven shawls drying in the sun. Out on the vast Tanguar Haor, life drifts by on boats ā fishermen casting nets, floating markets trading produce, and wetland birds skimming the reeds.
This private, nature-forward itinerary stitches together Sylhet’s essence: adventure with a trek to Hum Hum waterfall, wildlife in Lawachara National Park, water worlds at Ratargul swamp forest, Lalakhal’s electric-blue canals, and Tanguar Haor’s endless wetlands, plus gentle culture through a tea-making mini-class and slow village visits. Two scenic train rides glide you through the tea country in between, turning the journey itself into part of the experience.
š” Pro Tip: Travel JuneāSeptember for lush, high-water landscapes and misty forests; DecemberāFebruary for Lalakhal at its clearest, electric blue.

Day 1 ā Rails to Tea Country & Seven Layers of Flavour
Roll out of Dhaka on the Parabat Express as paddy fields blur into tea hills. In Srimangal, tuk-tuks zigzag through lime, pineapple and tea estates; you pick a tender leaf, learn the basics of tea-making, and watch the light fade over emerald slopes. At dusk, sip the iconic 7-layer tea ā each band a different taste stacked in a glass.
Day 2 ā Hum Hum: The Rainforest Reveals a Waterfall
A bumpy ride to Bon Kola Para gives way to jungle quiet. The Hum Hum trail climbs, dips, and wades along a stream; cicadas buzz, vines tangle, and then ā white water crashes over green rock. You cool off in the spray, snack on fresh fruit, and hike back with the forest’s heartbeat in your ears.
Day 3 ā Gibbons at Dawn, Birds at Dusk
Enter Lawachara National Park as sunrays stripe the forest floor. With luck, you hear a hoolock gibbon duet or glimpse leaf monkeys in the canopy. Later, you chat with villagers on the park fringe, then glide to Baikka Beel, where jacanas tiptoe lilies, and herons line the reeds ā golden hour perfection for lenses.
Day 4 ā The Blue Ribbon of Lalakhal ā Sylhet
A short drive to Sarighat takes you to your boat, which noses into Lalakhal ā a canal so clear in winter it looks lit from within. Limestone banks, quiet villages, and glassy bends create a meditative drift. Continue to Sylhet for a gentle city evening.
Day 5 ā Ratargul’s Emerald Maze & Sufi Sylhet
Paddle a country boat amid the flooded forest of Ratargul (water levels vary by season). Trunks rise from jade water; cormorants watch from branches. Back in town, stroll Keane Bridge, Ali Amjad’s Clock, the Surma riverfront, and the Sufi haven of Hazrat Shah Jalal’s shrine.
Day 6 ā Stones, Borders & Khasi Hills
At Jaflong, boulder collectors move like choreography across the Piyain River (peak NovāJan). A short boat hop takes you close to the action before you step onto no-man’s land by the India border. Nearby, a Khasi village welcomes you to betel-leaf gardens clinging to the hills.
Day 7 ā The Living Sea of Grass: Tanguar Haor
Drive to Sunamganj and board your private haor boat. All day, the water world unspools ā fishermen casting nets, floating markets, stilted homes, buffalo knee-deep in reeds. A simple boat lunch tastes better on open water. Sunset pours bronze over the wetland before you return to Sylhet.
Day 8 ā Slow Farewell by Rail
Enjoy a lazy breakfast, then let the Jayantika Express cradle you back to Dhaka. Out the window: villages, tea stalls, ponds shining with lilies ā the northeast waving goodbye.
