📜 Overview

Discover Chittagong: Hills, Tribes, Rivers & Coast — 11 Days / 10 Nights (Private)

Welcome to Bangladesh’s southeast — a mosaic of mist-rolled hills, glassy lakes, rocky rivers and roaring surf. You begin in Chittagong, where the horizon bristles with steel giants being unmade at the legendary ship-breaking yards, and old colonial warehouses hint at port-city grandeur. In Rangamati, you drift by a shaman boat across mirror-calm Kaptai Lake to island pagodas and women-run craft stalls, watching bright textiles dry in the sun.

Deeper in the hills at Bandarban, you walk through Marma and Mro villages where bamboo houses cling to ridges and looms clatter with hand-woven cloth. You glide down the rocky Sangu River, Bangladesh’s only hill river, as kingfishers flash blue ahead of your boat. Finally, you exhale on Cox’s Bazar, the world’s longest natural sandy beach, its tides stretching to infinity. You take a detour to Moheshkhali Island for a glimpse of salt beds, betel gardens and the rhythms of fishermen mending nets by hand. Adventurous souls can tack on a day hike to Keokradong, Bangladesh’s officially recognised highest peak, for sweeping views over the border hills.

💡 Pro Tip: We open with an overnight AC sleeper train to Chittagong — romantic, efficient, and the perfect way to slip straight into local life.

🧵 Rickshaw-Art Mini Demo: Meet an artist and learn how the panels are painted.

🚤 Extended River Loop: Extra 30 minutes on quieter channels at golden hour.

Day 1 — Overnight Train to the South

Your guide meets you at Dhaka’s lively station — steam rises from tea stalls, vendors weave past with snacks. You step into your AC sleeper, the lights dim, the rails hum; the neon fades to the countryside. You rock south toward Bangladesh’s frontier while the country sleeps.

Day 2 — Chittagong City & the River of Trade

Arrive at dawn, have breakfast, then embrace contrasts: the hush of the Commonwealth War Cemetery, the human tapestry inside the Ethnological Museum, the grit of port roads. Late afternoon, a shampan glides on the Karnaphuli; nets glitter in orange light as the sun sinks into the Bay.

Day 3 — Giants of Steel & Sacred Heights

Travel north to Kumira and board a licensed boat to frame the world’s largest ship-breaking coast — rusting hulls, flying sparks, men dwarfed by steel. Later, you climb Sitakunda’s Chandranath Temple; bells ring, incense curls, and the Bay shimmers below.

Day 4 — Across the Hills to Kaptai Lake

Drive through bamboo groves to Rangamati, gateway to the CHT. On Kaptai Lake, water mirrors hills as you pause at island pagodas and women-run Chakma craft shops. Evening turns the lake purple, and peace comes easily here.

Day 5 — Into Bandarban’s Golden Hills

Visit the Tribal Cultural Centre to sketch the CHT’s rich mosaic, then continue to Bandarban. The hill-top Golden Temple gleams as monks chant; at Nilachol, sunset pours molten gold across layered ridgelines.

Day 6 — Boga Lake & Keokradong Adventure (Optional Summit)

Clear permits early at Ruma Bazar, then follow trails through Marma and Khumi hamlets to sapphire-blue Boga Lake. Rest and share tea with locals—or continue to Keokradong (permit/weather-dependent). Prayer flags flutter and mist-draped hills roll to Myanmar. Choose the summit or savour village life lakeside.

Day 7 — Looms & the Rocky Sangu

Visit the Marma and Mro villages, where women weave on backstrap looms, and elders offer betel nut. In the afternoon, board a country boat on the rocky Sangu River — boulders crest the flow, kingfishers flash, and riverside tribal life unfolds in slow motion.

Day 8 — Markets to the Sea

Start the morning in a bustling tribal market, then follow the road as it unwinds to Cox’s Bazar. By afternoon, you stroll the world’s most extended beach — endless horizon, warm surf, silhouettes at sunset.

Day 9 — Sea Fish Landing & Rohingya Reality (Permit-Dependent)

Before dawn, the Sea Fish Landing Port explodes into action: trawlers unload silver catches, auctions thunder, gulls circle. If day-of permits come through, you visit the Rohingya camps for a sober, respectful encounter with resilience. At sunset, watch Daria Nagar light up with moon-shaped boats glowing against twilight.

Day 10 — Moheshkhali Island & Dry Fish Villages

A private speedboat skips to Moheshkhali, where salt pans stretch, fishermen mend nets and the hilltop Adinath Temple watches over betel gardens. Back on the mainland, walk through a Dry Fish Village, rows of fish curing in the sun — pungent, photogenic, and vital to the coast’s economy.

Day 11 — Farewell to the Southeast

Take one last barefoot walk. After breakfast, transfer to Cox’s Bazar Airport for the short flight to Dhaka. Hills, rivers, and coast stay with you long after your wheels touch down.

🎯 Trip Notes & Responsibility

📌 Key Notes

• Start Days: We avoid Saturday starts because the Ethnological Museum closes on Sunday. Weekly closures may require resequencing, which we handle for you.
• CHT Permits: We guide all movement, and dusk curfews may apply. Allow 10–14 days for permits.
• Boga/Keokradong: Trails depend on permits, weather, daylight & security; facilities stay basic and paths uneven.
• Moheshkhali: We use local private speedboats; eateries remain simple, so you should carry snacks.
• Road/Train: Expect traffic and 1–2h train delays; we build in buffers.

🌍 Responsible Travel Pledge

🤝 Ethical, Community First Travel: We ensure fair pay for guides, drivers, boat crews, artisans, and local families. We support community-led enterprises and ethical craft traditions with dignity and respect.

🗑️ Leave No Trace: We minimise waste on every tour and take out everything we bring in. Nature and communities remain exactly as we found them—or better.

🐦 Wildlife Comes First: No baiting, no chasing, no disturbance. We avoid flash photography around animals and always respect ethical viewing distances.

🕌 Cultural Respect Always: Dress modestly in sacred spaces, behave respectfully, and ask permission before taking close-up portraits of people—especially elders, artisans, and children.

🌱 Carbon-Aware Travel: We prioritise CNG-powered and fuel-efficient vehicles whenever possible. Remaining emissions are offset through local tree-planting initiatives in Bangladesh.

Is 11 days enough for the southeast?

Yes. This route threads Chittagong city, Kaptai Lake, Bandarban hills, Cox’s Bazar, Moheshkhali, and an optional Keokradong day — balanced with downtime and golden-hour photography.

Is ship-breaking photography safe and legal?

Yes. We operate licensed boats on the Bay side at safe, permitted distances and never trespass in yards. You still capture powerful long-lens frames and textured water-level shots.

How strenuous is Keokradong? Can I skip it?

Expect moderate hill trekking with uneven paths and ascents/descents. You can skip the summit and spend longer at Boga Lake & villages — the rest of the tour stays unchanged.

Do I need permits for Rangamati/Bandarban?

Yes. We handle all CHT permits — please send scans of your passport/visa/photo/entry stamp≥2 weeks before arrival. Authorities require that you travel with a guide.

Can I visit the Rohingya camps?

You can visit only if we secure day-of permits. If authorities refuse or offices close early, we switch to thoughtful alternatives—we always put safety & compliance first.

What are roads and boats like?

Hilly roads can run slow or bumpy, so we use a private AC vehicle and short tuk-tuk hops. Boats are local craft—safe and ideal for photography. We provide life jackets.

What kind of hotels will I get?

You stay in luxury 4–5★ local-standard accommodations (AC, hot water, western toilet) in major hubs, with the best available options elsewhere. Cox’s Bazar features a beach resort (upgradeable). In the hills, comfortable but simple hillside cottages often involve stairs.
